Spiced chai (and its cousin, the dirty chai latte) is pure cozy comfort. London fog lattes are also comforting, but they have an air of sophistication to them. You feel a little fancy sipping on one! I think it’s their complex flavour from the Earl Grey tea, which combines robust black tea with delicate, citrusy bergamot. Add a touch of vanilla and sweeten it with maple syrup and you’ll imagine yourself in a posh British cafe on a drizzly day!

  • Water – Use filtered water for the best flavour.
  • Earl Grey tea – You can use loose tea or a tea bag.
  • Plant milk – I prefer oat milk or almond milk; make sure it’s unsweetened and unflavoured.
  • Maple syrup – Or your choice of liquid sweetener.
  • Vanilla extract – It’s important to use pure vanilla extract, not imitation, because it’s a key player in the overall flavour of this London fog latte.

How to Make a London Fog Latte

Here’s a short visual overview of the process of making this London fog recipe. The complete instructions are in the recipe card below.

  • Steep the tea. Pour barely boiling water over the Earl Grey tea and steep until fragrant and strong.
  • Heat the milk. Warm the plant milk on the stovetop until hot, then froth if desired.
  • Sweeten and flavour. Stir the maple syrup and vanilla into the hot tea.
  • Assemble the latte. Pour the warm milk into the tea and serve immediately.

Recipe Variations

These are a few tweaks you can make to this London Fog recipe.

  • Add cozy spices. Finish with a pinch of cinnamon or cardamom for a spiced version. Just don’t add too much, or you’ll overshadow the bergamot flavour.
  • Use vanilla plant milk. Then, skip the vanilla extract in the latte.
  • Make it cold. For an iced London Fog, let the tea cool, pour over ice, and add cold milk.
