Red Velvet Cake

This Vegan Red Velvet Cake recipe features a moist chocolate cake with a vivid red colour, topped with vegan cream cheese frosting for a plant-based version of the Southern classic!

Simple Ingredients

You'll only need flour, sugar, and a few other ingredients to make this easy recipe.

Combine the vinegar and room temperature vegan milk in a jar; this will curdle the milk and it will thicken.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sea salt.

Pour in the oil, buttermilk, vanilla extract, red food colouring, and warm milk. Beat for 1 minute.

In a small bowl, mix together the white vinegar and baking soda. Pour into the cake batter and stir.

Divide the batter between cake pans and bake for 25 minutes. Then allow to cool.

Beat together butter, cream cheese, vanilla, salt, powdered sugar, and cornstarch. Then frost the top of one cake and stack the other on top.

Use an offset spatula to spread a thin layer of frosting over the sides and top of the cake.

Once the crumb coat is dry to the touch, frost the cake again. Then decorate as desired.

Enjoy!!
