This is actually the most important anniversary of my blog because of how symbolic it is. For the first time since I started this blog, I found my purpose for it. Some of you may know that I started my own baking business 4 years ago on this date, and created a blog for it to post what items I would make for clients. I really enjoyed the business but found that I also enjoyed blogging, but wouldn’t have enough time to blog while baking. As such, the first year of my blog is complete, and the next two years were a series of hiatuses, breaks and pauses, and months of no posts. Needless to say, my blog sat on the inter web totally unoccupied and forgotten.

Somewhere around early 2013, I realised that this all wasn’t working out. I had stopped baking for business to accommodate law school and suddenly realised I hate this. I know that sounds like a stretch, but I had gone from baking a red velvet cake once a week to endless orders during the week and going to bed at 3 am every morning. The money wasn’t even all that worth it; sure it was quick but after working out expenses it wasn’t worth it. I had ended up running a one woman pony show and ended up being a jack of all trades, and a master of none. I think the breaking point for me was when I fell ill on bed rest and was forced to stop, and realised that with each phone call of an order I had to turn down, I was actually relieved. That is why when people ask me if I want to start my own bakery, the answer is no. No, I can’t imagine baking 12 chocolate cakes everyday, but I can imagine spending 12 hours doing one post of something completely original and my own.

In September 2013, I took ahold of my blog. I began, for the first time, to blog consistently and fell in love all over again, except this time it was different. I was really in love with creating my own creations, with sharing in this amazing blogging community and with food photography. Most of all, I am in love with food photography. I realise that when I look down the road 5 years from now, I don’t see my baking business, but I do see my blog. Not just because it is starting to help financially and just keeps getting better that way, but because my first thought everyday is to see what new comments I’ve gotten, who’s emailed me to say they loved my recipe (those emails MAKE my entire week) and just to generally ensure my baby is running properly. It may have taken a while, but I realised that I was living everyone else’s dream – everyone who loved the convenience of a delicious personally customised cake at any hour of the day/night – and I wasn’t living mine. I have found back my passion for baking and cooking and it feels amazing. I’ve not only conquered many fears but it’s affected my health for the better; I was never a terrible eater but I’ve stopped eating many of the processed items I used to and I actually, really, appreciate the taste of fresh, pure ingredients.

I have God to thank for helping me get to where I am, of COURSE the Mr.  who provides endless support always and has taught me to love cooking and my parents and family for their endless help and “taste testing” saying “no – that photo looks terrible” which thank God I can now appreciate now that I understand food photography a lot more! Who else do I DEFINITELY have to thank?

My blog would be NOTHING without you. My views in November when I started my blog were close to zero and have grown so significantly that I am amazed everyday by the new readers and the returning readers who support me. You are so amazing! Keep sending your emails, because they really really make me happy! I love hearing how you loved the recipe, or what questions you have about food or blogging or photography or anything…!! That is why I wanted to have a giveaway to give back to you all for all your amazing support. That includes some awesome blogger friends I have made and so graciously welcomed me into their community. Thank you!!
